Our History
Home > About Us > Our HistoryElim Housing, which was established in 1973, comprises Elim Housing Association and Elim Housing Services. Gloucestershire Churches Housing Association, a previous member of the group, transferred its engagements to Elim Housing Association in March 2005.
Elim Housing Association is a charitable registered social landlord (RSL) registered with the Financial Services Authority under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act 1965 (No. 16402R) and is also registered with the Tenant Services Authority under the Housing Associations Act 1985 (No. LH0977).
Elim Housing Services (EHS) is a non-charitable company limited by shares which is wholly owned by the association. EHS was set up to manage property in the private sector and to covenant surpluses back to the parent to support the development of social housing. EHS is currently a dormant company.
The group owns or manages over 680 homes in England and Wales and this comprises a diverse stock of general housing, sheltered housing and supported housing. Our portfolio, which includes owned and leased properties, has been developed mainly, but not exclusively, with the benefit of social housing grant (SHG). Flexibility and adaptability are two of our key attributes.
The association also provides management and development services to HARC Housing Association, a specialist supported housing RSL and management services to Sarsen Housing Association.
Over the past few years, the association has continued to grow and develop and to respond to the changing environment we work in. Some of our main achievements over recent years are noted below:
(i) commencing a three year property improvement programme with expenditure of over £2 million,
(ii) maintaining active membership of the New Futures development partnership lead by the Aster Group,
(iii) contracting for new support services in North Somerset and agreeing contract extensions in Bristol and Gloucester,
(iv) delivering 36 new properties in Bristol and Gloucester,
(v) achieving re-accreditation with Investors in People with a very positive report.
The Business
Providing affordable housing and a quality service to tenants are two key aims of the business, but we also provide services for other organisations both within and outside the Elim Group.
A five-year rolling business plan is prepared and updated each year and every member of staff needs to understand the part they play in achieving our objectives. Within our budgets, any surpluses are returned to the business to help fund development and long-term maintenance of our properties.
Staff
The day-to-day running of the association is delegated to the management team and staff, and we are all accountable to the Board. At the time of writing, the association employs around 45 staff.
Investors in PeopleWe have been an Investor in People since 2002 and were reaccredited in 2008.
