The value of investing in social housing

May 2013

Elim’s Chairman, Graham Russell, has recently returned home to Gloucestershire following a five-week Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship to Australia.

Approximately 100 Fellowships are awarded each year for a wide range of projects.  The aim of Graham’s Fellowship was to examine new community based approaches to the provision of affordable community housing and related well being and care services.

You can read about Graham’s findings in his report The value of investing in social housing [pdf] 1MB

Your benefits are changing

May 2013

The bedroom tax came into affect from 1st April and those underoccupying by 1 or more rooms will now have had their Housing Benefit award reduced.

The Benefit cap is now being introduced by area.  It will be in effect in all areas by the end of September 2013.

Personal Independence Payments were introduced from April 2013 and are replacing Disability Living Allowance.  PIP will be separated into two parts; ‘mobility’ and ‘daily living’ which takes account of a persons ability to live independently as opposed to the condition they have been diagnosed with. PIP is not means tested, subject to tax or the benefit cap and is for people in work and out of work.

You can find out more about the move from DLA to PIP on our new Personal independence payments information page.

If you have any queries about how you may be affected by these changes please Contact us.
