Finance team of the year!

We were really pleased that the Elim Finance Team was shortlisted for the  Finance team of the year (small/Medium) at the Housing Association National Accountancy (HANA) awards 2016 alongside Acis Group, Rooftop Housing, Watford Community Housing Trust and Yarlington Housing Group.

At the awards ceremony on 5th July, Yarlington Housing Group were announced as the winners.

Group Finance Director, Mark Stuart, extended his congratulations to both Yarlington and Acis Group who were commended.

Mark said “The Elim finance team were really excited to have been shortlisted for the award and I was pleased to see their hardwork being recognised in this way.  Whilst we haven’t won this time round, it was a great opportunity to showcase just what a great team we have and how well they work together to support Elim’s work”

Give and Gain 2016

Give and Gain day is organised by Business in the Community and sees thousands of people from different organisations volunteer to help with community organisations, schools and social enterprises.

It is taking place on Friday 20th May this year and we are thrilled that employees from the Bristol branch of JLL will be giving their time to help us out at our Phoenix Place project in Bristol.

We are expecting about 38 volunteers and the plan is for them to paint two 3 bedroom flats that we are changing to become rooms for mothers with babies, increasing the number of mother and baby rooms avaliable at the project to 25.

They will also be building us some vegetable planters in the garden so we can start up a gardening group and grow some vegetables at Phoenix Place.  This will be in addition to some mini planters for herbs which will brighten up and add a sensory element to the garden as well as being used for cooking.

And, if they have any time or energy left after all that, they might be doing a few other bits and pieces for us such as taking down an unsafe shed, putting up some curtain poles and maybe even a few pictures on the walls.

We plan to share as much as we can about the day through our Twitter account so please take a look if you get chance.  We are @ElimHousing or look for tweets including #giveandgain to see what is going on at other locations.

What bills do you give priority to?

For our May poll, we asked you about how you prioritised your bills and were pleased to see that rent and mortgage were the priority.

This is especially important as Universal Credit will see claimants receiving one monthly payment which they will need to pay all their costs for a whole month.

There are lots of online tools available to help you work out your incomings and outgoings so you can make sure all essential costs are paid, to help you manage any debts, save up for a big purchase or to see where you might be able to cut back on day to day spending.  We particularly like the ones available through Citizens Advice and the Money Advice Service.

If you are having difficulties paying your rent or mortgage you should contact your landlord or lender as soon as possible.  At Elim you should contact your Housing Officer on 01454 411172 or email us info@elimhousing.co.uk

If you need advice or support with managing your money or debts you may wish to seek advise the following agencies or organisations:
