With Pride month celebrations getting underway, we have been reflecting on our impact in the LGBTQ community as a housing and support provider to ensure our communities are adequately supported.
According to national LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity AKT’S 2021 commissioned report found that 50% of LGBTQ+ young people said they feared that expressing their LGBTQ+ identity to family members would lead to them being evicted. And with growing evidence showing homeless LGBTQ people are now more vulnerable and more likely to receive harassment, Housing Associations have a clear role to play.
A lot has changed in our workplaces in the past two years. But the importance of diversity and inclusion hasn’t gone anywhere. Elim’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion working group continue to focus on building a diverse and inclusive culture at Elim, proactively challenging barriers to inclusion. Our CARES values encompass the key principles of our organisation. We believe everyone should be able to engage with or work with Elim and we celebrate our team’s individuality.
We will continue to work with others around raising awareness of the needs and experiences of LGBTQ people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness so we can best help our customers whilst achieving our aim of meeting housing need and delivering homes that change people’s lives.
Elim will be attending Bristol Pride on Saturday 9th July to support the community, where we will also be able to provide advice around our support services and signposting. Please do come and say hello!
If you would like to find out more about the support we offer please contact us at info@elimhousing.co.uk or by phone on 01454 411172.
Happy LGBTQ+ Pride Month!
