Rent a Home

If you'd like to rent one of our homes, you'll need to register with your local authority and apply through their Choice Based Lettings (CBL) scheme.

Choice Based Lettings Schemes let you tell your council which properties you are interested in. Gov.uk lays out the 4 basic steps:

  1. Find a property: check in local papers, on council websites, in council offices or in local libraries.
  2. Check you can apply for it: some properties are only suitable for single people, families or disabled people.
  3. Apply: this is known as ‘bidding’, but it doesn’t involve money. You can bid online, by phone or by text.
  4. Get the council’s decision.

"The most important thing is having somewhere stable to live. It's nice to know that there are organisations that are prepared to put something into you."

"It’s been increasingly difficult to find somewhere that suited my needs. I had my notice from my landlady and went into a complete panic and didn’t know what to do. I looked about for a couple of weeks but couldn’t find anything that would suit my needs and take someone who was in my situation. Charlotte (Former Elim Housing Officer) phoned and said, “we’re considering you… you’ve been shortlisted”. I was so excited, I didn’t know what to think. When I first came in, my jaw dropped. It’s so lovely, it really is wonderful."
